To uncover the history behind the name "Secondbolt Racing", turn back the clocks to 2004 -- to the 2nd floor of Bolt Hall on the Campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. Five Sophomore College students, inspired by the "Night of Destruction" Enduro Race in Kalamazoo MI, decided to build a race car of their own to compete in this 24hr of Lemons-esque Race.
The team determined early that their world class Racing Team would be named after their dormitory floor (2nd Floor, Bolt Hall aka "Secondbolt") and that their logo would be a blatant knockoff of the Edelbrock Logo. They sold T-shirts with the logo to raise funds for their endeavors and purchased the Ford Tempo from a College Professor for $500 . The chassis of choice: an early 90's Ford Tempo.
A deep friendship was formed through that Ford Tempo, and even though their car was rolled upside down on the 2nd Lap of their First Race, happy memories continue to this day. So happy were the memories for Matt Korthuis, that he continues to use "Secondbolt Racing" for the name of his first Business endeavor.
Matt Korthuis, aka "mattster03" was an early member of the V8 RX-7 Community, proudly "De-wankle-ing" RX-7's since 2004. He has built, or help build, 3 FC RX-7's, 2 FD RX-7's and 1 RX-8 . V8 Swapped RX-7 are his passion, and he has designed the parts showcased on this website to help bring joy to those who share his same passion.
